The man towards the back of this picture circled in red is Eliezer Wiesel, better known as Elie. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Holocaust survivor and distinguished author of the novel Night. He was forced into Aushwitz, the most notorious Nazi concentration camp at a very early age and was forced to become more of an adult in a few long years than most people do in their entire lives. He not only had to support himself during this time (which many could not do) he had to support his father who was sick and old, until his father eventually died and he lived on to do great things.
this picture reminds me of the part of the story when the man is telling Elie to not worry about his father and that instead of sharing his ration, he should have taken his fathers.
